The Assington Country Kitchen at The Barn, Assington is a new business venture for a very well known local couple, Annie Reidy and Malcolm Long.
Annie has spent the last fifteen years working in local establishments including the famous Company Shed in Mersea. She was not just the chef, but also the General Manager of the award winning Peldon Rose, and more recently she transformed The Victory at Mersea, in which she also captured awards.
She is a very accomplished chef who believes in simple well cooked food using the best of local supplies and is very excited about this, her first own business.
Malcolm, her partner is a very well known local figure, he retired from the Colchester Institute after 35 years as Senior Lecturer where he trained thousands of young chefs who are now all over the world, including some quite famous ones. It is hard to find a hotel or restaurant in the Colchester area without a chef trained by Malcolm. His other achievements include 3 books, his own monthly column in the Essex County Standard for 13 years, and doubtless many of you will have watched his cookery demonstrations at the Tendring Show and Food on the Park in Castle Park each year. He will also be running his team of chefs in the big top at Jimmy’s Farm, during the Bank Holiday weekend and will look forward to seeing his usual crowd of followers.
Both Annie and Malcolm, who is general dogs’ body one moment, clearing tables, shopping or even washing up the next, welcome all their friends, past and new customers to The Barn at Assington which we are sure you will enjoy. We look forward to seeing you soon.
